Development[edit]

On April 13, 2021, according to Deadline, the SyFy channel and production company Shout! Studios are developing a remake for the 1982 slasher film The Slumber Party Massacre. Danishka Esterhazy will direct, from a script written by Suzanne Keilly.[1][2]

Details about the plot are being kept secret, but the new version is being described as "a reimagining of the original feature".[3][4]

Brent Haynes, president of Shout! Studios, said:

“Doing a remake of this film is exciting and daring, but there are no more capable people to take on this challenge than Danishka Esterhazy, Suzanne Keilly and the team at production company Blue Ice Pictures. Their creative vision will honor the original feature and appeal to today's audience.”[5]

Haynes also serves as a executive producer for the project, alongside Bob Emmer, Garson Foos and Jordan Fields. They said:

“We’re thrilled to partner with Syfy on Slumber Party Massacre. Ever since we acquired the New Horizon Picture library, encompassing 270 Roger Corman films, we’ve been looking for opportunities to co-develop new content and remakes. We look forward to combining our efforts and hope this is just the start of a long and rewarding relationship.”[6]

In June 2021, Shout! Factory acquired 270 films from the Roger Corman film library with the original The Slumber Party Massacre being one of those films.[7]
