Som River
The Som River is a significant right bank tributary of the Mahi River. It originates near Som on the Eastern slopes of the Aravalli hills in the Udaipur district of Rajasthan, India. The river begins at an elevation of 600 meters above mean sea level and flows in an Eastern direction.[1]
Course[edit]
The Som River flows through the Udaipur and Dungarpur districts of Rajasthan. It travels approximately 155 kilometers, meandering through the landscape. Its course takes it through the Aravalli hills, enriching the surrounding areas with its waters.
Tributaries[edit]
The major right bank sub-tributaries of the Som River are the Gomti and Jakham rivers. These tributaries contribute to the overall flow and drainage of the Som River system.
Joining the Mahi River[edit]
The Som River eventually joins the main river Mahi River on its right bank, approximately 6.3 kilometers upstream of the Paderdibadi site in the Dungarpur district of Rajasthan.
Hydrology[edit]
The Som River has a total drainage area of 8707 square kilometers. Its waters have been essential for the local communities and ecosystems in the regions it flows through.
