Sommer - Für die große Liebe musst du kämpfen - in English "Summer (fighting for love)"- is a German film production from 2008 with Jimi Blue Ochsenknecht.

Plot[edit]

Introduction[edit]

Tim Winter, who is fifteen years old, has already seen a lot of the world as his father, an air-force pilot, keeps moving him around. Tim cannot, however, accompany his father to Somalia and is instead sent to Amrum, a German island, where his grandmother lives. It is the 8th time that he changes school and he is used to being the new kid. As soon as he arrives, he gets into a fight with Lars, the popular leader of a cool sufer clique. Tim wants to protect Eric, a somewhat overweight boy, from Lars and his friends. During the fight, Lars pushes Tim through the window pane of a shop. In order to compensate for the damages, Tim has to pay 1400 euros and starts looking for a job. His search is successful at a riding centre where he can immediately start working. After a little while, he sees a blonde girl, Vic, dancing in the stables. He is immediately intrigued by her and falls in love with her. Even though Vic has been going out with Lars for over two years, she also starts to fancy Tim.

Main part[edit]

Lars invites Vic to have a romantic dinner and to spend their first night together in a suite, called the "Honeymoon Suite", of his father's hotel. Vic is not entirely happy about the idea and asks her best friend Steffi, whose father owns the riding centre, for advice. Eric, who has become friends with Tim, gives Tim his first riding lessons. As she finds it hard to make time for her horse, Steffi asks Vic to ride it for her. That is how Tim and Vic end up riding out together. The teenagers have a profound conversation and Vic finds something in Tim she does not know from Lars, namely that the boy from Berlin likes her for who she is, undeterred by all her fears and problems.

Vic confides in Tim that her father is drinking and that he has been unemployed since his company went bankrupt. She also tells him that her family is barely making ends meet. Amongs others, Tim talks about his personal strokes of fate, such as the death of his mother when he was just four years old. He also tells her the reason why he avoids swimming in the sea: A friend of his, Ben, drowned in a lake because he couldn't swim. Tim eventually found him but was unable to save him. Vic realizes through Tim's candor that she has fallen in love with him. Vic's mother, the school principal, finds out about the budding love and is not thrilled about the development. She wants her daughter to be with a boy of good standing. Therefore, Vic tries to hide her relationship with Tim. This of course bothers him very much. At a karaoke evening, where Lars and Vic are also present, Tim sings Vic's favorite song "The One". As a result, Vic breaks up with Lars to finally be with Tim. She would like to show her new love, but then doesn't. In the meantime, Vic's father wants to build up a new existence by taking tourists across the sea to the seal banks on a boat. He puts his boat in a barn on Steffi's father's horse farm, for which Tim also has a key. Lars is angry because Vic has left him. During a summer party, he and his friend Bernie break into the barn and Lars destroys Steffi's father's trophies stored there. But when they have to leave abruptly, Bernie drops a burning kerosene lamp on the floor, whereupon the entire barn and boat go up in flames. To show Tim that she is loyal to him, Vic sings "The One" at the summer party. The arrival of a police officer, who informes Steffi's father about the fire, destroys the mood. The manager of the riding centre suspects Tim, who asserts his innocence. Consequently, Vics parents feel more assured in their rejection against Tim. As Vic's sister eavesdrops on a talk between Lars and Bernie, in which she gets to know the truth about the fire, she informs Vic and her parents immediately. Tim and Lars tangle with each other at the beach and this time Tim challenges Lars to do a swimming competition. Whoever reaches the red buoy first, wins. Lars swims faster than Tim, but is biten by a fire jellyfish shortly before the finish. Tim rescues his opponent and brings him back to the beach. Some onlookers are already waiting - among them are Vic's parents, who apologize to Tim after the rescue operation.

The End[edit]

Tim's father has realises that he has to take more care about his son and therefore comes to Amrum to pick him up. Vic and Tim are desperate because just now, when the way has been prepared for them, the two lovers only have one day left before Tim has to leave. They sit on the beach and try to enjoy their last hours together. As a farewell gift, Vic presents Tim with a box which he is not allowed to open until later. When he and his father leave and are already on their way to the ferry, Tim opens the box. There is a foto of Vic and a anchor chain, which Vic got from her grandmother, in it. It says: If you press the anchor very firmly, everything will be okay again. Tim surprises Vic at the beach, they fall in one another's arms as Tim will stay on the island after all.
