Son of a Witch is a 2018 2D video game created by Bigosaur.[1]
Development[edit]
The game is inspired by The Binding of Isaac and Castle Crashers. It was announced in March 2016 as a mixture of fast action beat ‘em up game and a dungeon crawler focusing on exploration and replayability.[2][3]
It was initially named My Mom is a Witch and using that name, it got into official selection for the Indiecade game festival in 2016[4][5] and the Indie Prize competition in 2017.[6]
As Steam Greenlight was a part of game release process at the time, the game entered it on September 11th, 2016. Two weeks later, a playable demo was presented at 2016 EGX, which gave the developers great boost in greenlight votes and made the game quickly Greenlit.[7][8][9]
The game has changed the name to Son of a Witch on July 3rd, 2017.[10]
Nintendo Switch port of the game is announced for Fall 2018.[11]
Gameplay[edit]
The player controls a Knight who fights enemies in a procedurally generated dungeon. He can upgrade his character as he progresses in the game and also buy better equipment or pet companions. Player can also unlock new characters: a Mage, Sorceress, Archer, Pyromancer, Undead Ranger and a Barbarian. [12] The fighting system is based on Castle Crashers with a major twist: players can carry and use multiple weapons and every weapon has a unique special attack that gives the player new abilities. The game supports cooperative gameplay for up to four players, either locally or online. [13]
