Spectator USA is an online magazine of politics, culture and current affairs. Founded in March 2018.[1] under the editorship of Freddy Gray, it is the American edition of Britain’s The Spectator, the world’s oldest continuously published magazine in English.
Background[edit]
Spectator USA is owned by David and Frederick Barclay, proprietors of British weekly magazine The Spectator and the monthly art magazine Apollo, via Press Holdings. Spectator USA’s founding editor, Freddy Gray, is deputy editor of The Spectator[2]
Content[edit]
Spectator USA publishes original stories about American politics, global current affairs and arts. A small amount of content is carried over from the UK Spectator’s site each week. Spectator USA also carries weekly podcasts: the political Americano[3] podcast with Freddy Gray, and the Green Room[4] podcast with Dominic Green.
Policy positions[edit]
Like its British parent, Spectator USA’s outlook is ideologically promiscuous: it regularly publishes stories from writers of all political stances. Freddy Gray described the magazine's stance as "pro-America and pro-Americans"[5], and "not crazily for or crazily against Donald Trump"[6]. It is strongly in favor of freedom of speech, and frequently critical of political correctness.
