Splendia or Splendia.com is an online travel agency specialized in hotel booking. The company's headquarters are located in Barcelona, Spain..[1] · [2].

History[edit]

Created in 2004 by Elie de Coignac and Benoît Durand[3], the website offers a selection of high-end hotels for destinations in Europe and around the world.[4] With the slogan "Luxury & Character Hotels", Splendia claims a luxury positioning[5] · [6] · [7] · [8] and works with hotel groups such as Accor, Marriott, Hilton, Ritz-Carlton, Starwood and Hyatt.[9] · [10]

  • In 2004, Elie de Coignac and Benoît Durand created "Maroc Selection", a company that references and distributes high-end riads and hotels in Morocco.[11]
  • In 2006, Maroc Selection becomes "Travel Selection"[12]. Alven Capital invested 2 million euros to finance the company's international growth. [13] · [9]
  • In 2007, Travel Selection changes its name to "Splendia"[11]. The turnover reached 27 million euros.
  • In 2008, Omnes capital (formerly Crédit Agricole Private Equity) is contributing 3 million euros to help Splendia grow in America and Asia. Splendia has 70 employees in offices in Barcelona, Hong Kong and Miami [14].
  • In 2010, the Splendia.com website is available in 10 languages[11] and covers 130 countries with nearly 5,000 luxury hotels in its portfolio [15].
  • In 2011, Splendia gets a "Travel d'or" in the hotel category[16] and launches StayPrivé, its own private luxury hotel sales website [17] · [18] · [19] · [20]. In September 2011, Ferrari chooses Splendia as partner of its event "FF Passion 4 Tour" for the benefit of the charity "Make-A-Wish France" [21] · [22] · [23] · [24] · [25] · [26]
  • In 2012, the company developed many partnerships such as Air France, MasterCard, Visa Premier, Post Bank Germany, Generali, Vodafone Italy or Avis Spain[27] · [28] · [29] · [30] · [31] · [32] · [33] and achieved a turnover of 50 million euros with 1 million unique visitors per month [34] · [35].
  • In 2014, for its 10th anniversary, Splendia launched "Instagramers City Guides" an operation mobilizing users of the Instagram social network to discover several cities of the world. The objective being to transcribe the lived experiences, to share the discoveries, the good plans and the moments of life with the community Splendia.   • In 2016, Splendia was acquired by the Voyage Privé group, an online travel agency specialising in private sales, for an undisclosed amount [44] · [45]. The double objective of this acquisition was to enable Voyage Privé to acquire a CMS technology and connectivity essential to the development of the relationship with hoteliers as well as to develop a permanent collection of high-end hotels to book outside its private sales periods [13] · [46] · [47] · [48]
  • In 2017, the New York news site Time places Splendia.com 5th in its ranking of websites allowing to book luxury hotel rooms at an advantageous rate.[49]
