History[edit]

Sporting Ennistymon FC was officially launched by FAI Chief Executive Officer Mr. John Delaney on Sunday May 4th 2008 at the Falls Hotel Ennistymon. Before a large audience, Mr. Delaney wished the club every success in providing the Ennistymon, Lahinch and wider North/West Clare Community with a sporting and social outlet that will enhance the already proud history of football in the region. In total the club has over 200 active playing members.[1] Although the club was founded in 2008 and is a relatively young club there has been many different football clubs in the area under different names such as Ennistymon Celtic etc. The club has one many honours, but the most coveted being the Hugh Kelly Premier Divsion Cup[2] when they beat Newmarket Celtic 2-1. Ennistymon also made it to Round 16 of the Munster Junior Cup twice in the space of four years. The first coming with a 4-2 win over Grangeville of Cork [3]. They eventually lost to Geraldines, who went on further to losing the final. The Second coming in the 2017/18 season beating Rockmount A.F.C. 2-1.[4] Sporting regularly enter into the F.A.I Junior Cup, reaching the 3rd round after beating Askeaton in the 2017-18 Season[5]. Along with featuring well outside of Clare, they also experienced great success within the county [6]. Despite their achievements Sporting have had their fair share of defeats [7] but despite set backs the North Clare side always seemed to turn up trumps.
