Sriramulu Vallabhajosyula, a nanogenarian, is a race walker and has represented India in many international tournaments and has added in great number to the medals won by India. For the three gold medals he won in Perth at the age of 93, he was adjudged the "Athlete of Asia - 2016" for being the only Asian Athlete winning three golds in one meet.

Early life[edit]

Sriramulu V was born in Machilipatnam, A.P. on 18 July 1923. After his graduation and a short stint as a local auditor in the Military Accounts Department, he joined the then Royal Indian Navy in March 1944 during World War II. On completion of almost 35 years of service, he retired from the Indian Navy and worked in the Dredging Corporation of India for eight years. While in the Navy, sailing and yachting was his main hobby and he took part in several national and international races, winning in quiet a few. Subsequently, he took up race walking and running and is continuing to train for events that are coming up.

Mountaineering also was one of his hobbies. Along with his son, he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa in 2002. And later on he made two trips to the Himalayas, once to the Everest Base Camp and next to the Pindari Glacier.
