St Cecilia School of Music Examinations

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The St Cecilia School of Music Examinations (SCSM) was started in 1974 in Launceston, Tasmania.

The examination board was first established by creating their own unique assessment system—catering for young learners at three elementary levels (Beginner, Junior and Preliminary grades). As these examinations grew in popularity, the school extended their syllabuses to offer a full suite: Grades 1-8, Concert Certificates 1-8, Recital Certificates, a Certificate in Music Teaching (CMT) and Associate, Licentiate and Fellowship Diplomas in all subjects. This St Cecilia system has been widely accepted and now operates in every major centre throughout Australia, New Zealand, Asia and Italy.

The St Cecilia School of Music is directed by Matthews Tyson and is assisted by professional teachers as well as experienced business leaders. Teachers are regularly invited to contribute to the content of the syllabus and are encouraged to submit ideas and suggestions that will allow for continued improvement and efficiency. Students who successfully complete the St Cecilia examinations will have shown evidence of thorough technical preparation and quality musicianship. Without compromising standards, the St Cecilia system has a record of being approachable and user-friendly for teachers and stimulating for students.
