Stephen Reinhardt (musician)

Stephen Reinhardt (born November 30, 1947 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA) is an American Dancer, Conductor, Musical Director and Yoga Instructor.

He began dancing at age 8, receiving his early training in tap at the Germantown Boys Club, then ballet and jazz at the Jean Williams School of Ballet. He studied and performed with the Pennsylvania School of Ballet and went on to the Juilliard School of Performing Arts in New York. He appeared in the Broadway musicals, "The Happy Time," "West Side Story", (Lincoln Center Revival, as Baby John), "Noël Coward's Sweet Potato," the film "Song of Norway," and lastly "Minnie's Boys". In 1971, he became Stephen Schwartz's music director and pianist for the original New York production of "Godspell," and also the film, followed by the Broadway productions of "The Magic Show" and "Working," including the PBS production. In 1979 he relocated to Los Angeles, with his wife Gilmer McCormick, who originated the role of "Gilmer," in Godspell. He was the pianist for the Los Angeles company of "Evita," and minister of music for seventeen years at the First Christian Church of North Hollywood. In 1984 he became Music Supervisor for ABC's "General Hospital," and in 1994 "Days of Our Lives," earning 5 Emmy Awards, and more than a dozen nominations. He currently lives in Louisville, Kentucky, with his wife of fifty years, Gilmer, and surviving son, James Brian, his daughter-in-law, Claudia, and grandson, Liam. Their daughter, Eve, succumbed to cancer March 13, 2016. He is now contentedly retired with garden gloves and chain saw. (Updated, December 19, 2021 by S.R.)
