Structure (American Synth-Pop Band)

STRUCTURE was formed by Robert Walker and Craig Dahlberg in October of 1993. Robert would be the bands lead singer and lead writer. Craig would be the bands bass player. In need of a lyricist and realizing the music lacked harmony, a backup singer was needed. John Walker was recruited and joined the band 3 months later, in January of 1994. During the initial stages of STRUCTURE, Mike Walker collaborated with the group by helping to edit the first few songs. Owning his own work station, Mike eventually joined the band 5 months later, in March of 1994. Mike would become a co-writer and add additional backup vocals to the songs. The final member to join the band was Tim Ryan. Tim was a childhood friend of all the band members and also had a passion and love for all types of music. Wanting to give the music a harder and more edgy sound, Tim was invited to join the band and play lead guitar. Over time, each band member contributed to lyrics, arrangements and marketing. One of the first things a fan of STRUCTURE would often comment on was the vocal harmonies. For instance, in a song called 'Trigger', a three part harmony can be heard throughout the song. The three Walker brothers often sang together as children and later as teenagers. This chemistry between brothers contributed to the original and natural sound of the band and was a signature component of the music. STRUCTURE was heavily influenced by European electronic/dance music. However, the influence of the "Oldies but Goodies" was also evident in the harmonies. Although classified as electronic/synth-pop music, STRUCTURE combined these two styles to generate their own distinct sound. Over a 10 year period STRUCTURE was able to write and produce 3 full length albums and release several singles. Some of the highlights of the band included playing many live performances in the cities of Fresno, Clovis and Rexburg, Idaho (Rick's College). STRUCTURE was able to get a lot of airplay on Fresno State's college radio station 90.7 which introduced the band to many new fans. STRUCTURE also enjoyed airplay at Rick's College which is now BYU Idaho. As the internet was just getting started, you could pick up a STRUCTURE CD at the local record store or other stores who supported the groups work. This included: Tower Records, The Warehouse, Danny's Records, K-Mart and Far West Books. After the bands 3rd release, 'Opaque' most of band members were becoming fathers and family responsibilities began to take more time away from the band. It's estimated that the band officially broke up in late 2004. ...
