Student Loan Hero is a financial services start-up based in Austin, Texas, that operates a website with free online tools for managing student loan debt and financial products for refinancing loans, offered through partner companies.[1]

The website includes a platform for organizing debt, as well as various financial calculators and a personal finance blog.[2][3] Its primary tool allows users to sync their various loans into a management system using proprietary data scrapers, and to receive information about programs for which they might be eligible.[4] The interface is centered around a dashboard where users can organize their debt and look at repayment and refinancing options.[5] Its tools are free to use, with the company making money through referrals to its banking partners.[6][7]

The company competes with Tuition.io and ReadyForZero, among others, and according to TechCrunch, it had $63 million in debt under management, as of 2013.[4]

Student Loan Hero's blog covers a variety of personal finance topics, mostly aimed at millennials. Its writers also contribute content for various financial publications, such as CNBC[8], USA Today [9] and MarketWatch [10], as well as providing commentary on the student loan crisis. [11][12] It also produces surveys and research, often featured in U.S. financial media.[13][14][15]

Student Loan Hero was founded in 2012 by CEO Andrew Josuweit, Evan Shoemaker, and Pavel Timofeev, with funding from Startup Chile and Socratic Labs.[1][4]

The company has also received some attention for its management style, including its all-remote workforce[16] and its employee learning program.[17]
