Subhakirti Majumdar

Subhakirti Majumdar is a retired Government of India civil servant from 1978 batch of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).[1]. Currently, he serves as the Director General of Indian Jute Mills Association [2]. During the course of his extensive career, he was empanelled for appointment to Secretary and Secretary equivalent posts in the Centre (Government of India) [3]. He hada multidisciplinary and unblemished career spanning 34 years with the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). He was assigned to important departments of the Bihar Government and Government of India across a wide-range subjects such as finance, taxes, trade policy, environment & forests and public administration. As the Principal Secretary, Department of Mines, Government of Bihar, he was responsible for the State’s natural resource exploration and development with help of geoscientific information on minerals. Prior to it, as the State’s Principal Secretary for Environment and Forests, Government of Bihar, Subhakirti was responsible for the State’s commitment towards sustainable development, preparation of the State’s Action Plan on Climate Change and maintenance of ecological balance as well as biodiversity [4]. He is the grandson of Dr. Biman Behari Majumdar, a great scholar of History and Vaishnava literature in the late 1920's [5]. Dr. Majumdar has numerous published works in History, Economics, Geography, Political Science, Public Administration and Vaishnava Literature. He taught in Patna University and also was the Principal of H.D.Jain College, Arrah. His two sons Dr. Bhakta Prasad Majumdar and Dr. Bhagaban Prasad Majumdar were both Professors in Patna University. in History and English respectively. His third son Dr.Bhim Prasad Mozoomdar studied medicine, went abroad and settled in Singapore. Subhakirti is part of one of the most well known Bengali families in Patna, this Majumdar family has contributed a lot in the academic and bureaucratic scene of Bihar.

He has Represented Government of India at apex forums - Rome F.A.O. Headquarters, F.A.O. at London, Geneva, International Cocoa Organization at London, International Jute Study Group at Dhaka and Textile Summit at Beijing. His educational qualifications include Master of Business Administration from University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, Masters Degree in Arts (gold medalist) in Political Science from Patna University, Bachelor of Arts (with Honours) in Political Science in First Division (Economics and English) from Patna College. In addition, he holds Financial Management for IAS Officers at Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and attended TC 140-25, Designing Managing integrated Agricultural and Rural Development Programme conducted by the United States Department of Agriculture at Washington (USA)in addition to other programmes at Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad, IIM Ahmadabad and Kolkata.
