Suicide Island (自殺島, Jisatsutou) is a seinen manga written and illustrated by Kōji Mori. Published from November 2008 to August 2016 in the Young Animal magazine, edited by Hakusensha, and seventeen volumes have been marketed.[1][2]

A total of 1,5 million copies were circulating in Japan in October of 2012.[3]

Characters[edit]

In the comic series there is a certain characters whose real name is not revealed until later on which is a trade seen in different characters in the story.[4]

Main Protagonists[edit]

  • Sei: 19-year-old boy who attempted numerous times on his own life. He is skilled in archery which will play a big factor in the story since he is able to hunt for his group. While hunting down deers in the mountain he learns a new meaning in life and regains the will to live.
  • Ikiru: A puppy that Sei decided to keep as a hunting partner and will accompany him through his whole journey. Originally he was owned by a man living in the mountains who Sei founds while hunting.
  • Liv: Main co-protagonist whose real name is "Maria" however She changes her name to "Liv" since it reminds her of her obscure past. She is noticed by Sei on the very first day due to her beauty. After the first night she comes close to committing suicide with Sei from the roof of the school building. As the story progresses she becomes more attached to Sei who will even give her the name "Liv". At the age of ten She starts to live with father's relatives, and her adopted dad would sexually abuse her on a daily basis which was the main cause of her suicide attempt.

Secondary Characters[edit]

  • Kai: He becomes one of the group liders alongside with Ryo. He tend to view everything from a very calmed viewpoint. However, he has a very cynic attitude and believes that "There is no value to human beings", which is one of the reasons that drive him to make other people committ suicide, and later, kill people. After this, he gets discovered and exiled from the group, leaving him no choice but to join Sawada's crew who He will help strategising against Sei's crew. At the end of the story, after Sawada's death He is imprisoned in the school's toilet, but he manages to scape and kill Ryo. He takes Liv as an hostage, but Sei ends up chaising him down and killing him with his Bow, saving Liv and the child she carries.
  • Sawada: He becomes the main antagonist of the series since he wants to take Sei's part of the island. In the lawless island he becomes a lider of Sei's opposite group. He is known for eating human flesh and using women as a sexual slaves as well as being able to hold psychological control over the people on his side. He is feared and adored by them. In his past previous the arrival in the island he was chased by the Yakuzas and also was related to drug trafficking.
  • Ryo: One of the characters that Sei becomes attached the most. He attemps Suicide due to the death of his girlfriend. He is a young man full of vitality and a natural lider who, in the first day, already guides Sei's crew to a old school building where they will live.
