Later, during eight years in jail, she filed 99 civil rights cases to speak up about the unfair treatment of inmates. Even though she didn’t win, her efforts didn’t stop. In 2011, she was kidnaped and raped for 4 days around Easter by two Columbian men in Washington, DC. Controversy[edit]
In 2015, Prasad faced a controversy when she disappeared for several years amid legal issues. Accused by babysitter Monica Kristy Vick and Hamilton L. Hendrix, both claiming to have been present during the alleged arson attempt, Prasad opted to remain in jail after a hung jury, awaiting a rehearing of evidence. Ultimately, she pleaded guilty, citing a lack of circumstantial evidence and a desire to expedite the legal process. [4] [5]
Sun has been a vocal critic of hazing and bullying within Black Greek organizations. She was a member of the Eta Tau chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. at Virginia Commonwealth University, pledging in 2004. Along with two other members of her pledge class, she alleges experiencing severe hazing that ultimately led to their expulsion from the sorority (as one person reported this), despite their legacy statuses.
As a survivor of hazing while a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Sun initiated legal action against the organization following her experience from 2015. The alleged hazing resulted in severe post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) that was stirred from the legal issues. Incarceration subsequently forced the abrupt termination of the lawsuit. Notably, the organization has since implemented a whistleblower policy.
Despite changes in policy, Prasad does not seek readmission status.
