Syed Obaid Mujtaba (Urdu,سید عبید مجتبیٰ) (5 July 1960 - 1 May 2017) was a Pakistani Journalist, Columnist, Researcher and an Author[1]. Born in Karachi, Pakistan to a Notable Bukhari Syed Family (Saadat-e-Kannauj), Obaid Mujtaba initially worked as a Journalist with Pakistani Urdu Newspapers. He wrote columns for Urdu as well as English newspapers, both National and International. He Also attended many conferences and worked with electronic media.[2][3]

Obaid Mujtaba wrote the book Name Sharif Khandan Nay Pakistan Kis Tarha Loota (Urdu,شریف خاندان نے پاکستان کس طرح لوٹا). On This book is about Nawaz Sharif Family,s history and their corruption. The writer provided the evidence of the crime of Sharif family. He told that how they looted and plundered Pakistan.

Family Background[edit]

Mujtaba's family were Syed to be descendants of Ali, the fourth Caliph of Rashidun Caliphate. Initially settling in Bukhara, they migrated to Multan and later to the Shi'ite strongholds of Bareilly and Kannauj India.On 14 August 1947 after partition his Parents migrated to Karachi Pakistan where he was born...His family still leaves in Karachi

Mujtaba was born in Karachi, Pakistan. He received his early education in Karachi. He was a brilliant student in his educational life

Journalistic Career[edit]

In His Journalistic Career He wrote on many issues. with leading newspapers of Pakistan as Commerce Reporter, Research Investigative Reporter, Columnist & Special Correspondent, Special Reports Editor

  • In 1980s, Obaid Mujtaba started his career with Daily Jasarat Karachi as Columnist.
  • Then he Joined Daily Nawaiwaqt Karachi as Columnist.
  • In 1990, He Joined Weekly Takbeer Karachi[4]- as Investigative Reporter.
  • In mid 1990 He Joined Weekly Zindagi Lahore[5] as Bureau Chief for Sindh and Baluchistan Division.
  • He worked with Weekly Wajood Karachi as Investigative/Research Reporter
  • He worked with Daily Jang Karachi as Free Lance Columnist as well as Many International and Pakistani Monthly and Weekly Magazines.

Trial of Mian Nawaz Sharif against Plane Hijacking Case (1999)[edit]

He was reporting the Trial of Mian Nawaz Sharif against Plane Hijacking Case in 1999, because his Truth reporting.. The Musharraf Gov Authority was not happy about him. He was once deadly attacked by unknown individuals while reporting on a Trial Case in Karachi.

U.S. invasion of Afghanistan (Fall of Kandahar in 2001)[edit]

In 2001 Syed Obaid Mujtaba was the only foreign Journalist in City of Kandahar, Afghanistan (Taliban's Last Headquarter) whos allowed to enter in Taliban's Controlled Side and reporting the war. he got the special permission by Taliban higher authority to cower the war for Pakistani Media such as Daily Jang and Daily Pakistan. as of other international Media were stayed in other side and was covering the war and Taliban did not allowed them to enter in their area.. On December 7 2001 He witnessed the last movement of Taliban surrendered the Kandahar city to Karzai's forces...( Before Surrender, Taliban authority was informed him that they are leaving Kandahar city so they cannot provide him the security anymore so he can go far from the war zone for his own safety. Monthly Tahqeeq-o-Tafteesh Urdu Magazine (Urdu,تحقیق و تفتیش ماہنامہ)[edit]

In Early 2000 he Launched his own Monthly Magazine in Urdu Language Name Tahqeeq-o-Tafteesh (Urdu,تحقیق و تفتیش) meaning in English (Research and Investigation). after few months, Due to financial issue he stopped Publishing that magazine

Death[edit]

He died on 01 May 2017 at about 6 am in Karachi after suffering a heart attack. He was survived by his wife, 4 daughters and 4 sons.
