TMT by Thunder Match Technology[edit]

TMT (formerly branded as Thunder Match Technology[1]) is Malaysia’s leading consumer Information and Communications Technology retailer with 95 outlets[2] available nationwide, complemented with its own e-commerce platform[3] to further expand its reach in the digital sphere

.

History[edit]

Thunder Match Technology Sdn Bhd was founded in January 1997[4], during the early days of the technology boom, with the key focus in offering a wide range of computer and communication products. The goal was to establish a one stop computer and information technology solution provider that prioritizes on efficiency, convenience and customer experience. It all began small. TMT founder and managing director Adrian Yu first tried his hand through his PC reselling business when he was still studying. At the time, there were not many big names selling affordable PCs, so with that idea on mind, founder Adrian Yu took the market opportunity to buy parts and assembled them before selling the built-up machines to university mates for affordable prices. The first TMT store was opened at Imbi Plaza. As the business boomed, TMT eventually moved its flagship store to Low Yat Plaza, occupying over 15,000 square feet of retail space.[5]

In March 2001, Thunder Match Technology (TMT) was incorporated, and began operating as a wholly-owned entity of Thunder Match Technology Sdn Bhd. Thunder Match Technology has grown exponentially over the years, from its humble beginning of a single outlet, staffed by 5 people, to 95 outlets to date. In November 2011, Thunder Match Technology launched and officiated Malaysia's first Windows Experience Zone (WEZ) at Plaza Low Yat.[6]

The following year, 2012, Thunder Match Technology managed to clinch a major deal with Korean giant Samsung to market its mobile products; opening the first Samsung Experience Store in Suria KLCC. Aside from Samsung, TMT also managed to convince other key brand owners to join into a partnership with it, citing its highly experienced retail team as a key element of success. Today, TMT works with major brands including Apple, Hewlett-Packard and Asus in terms of customer experience stores.[7]

In April 2016, together with Intel and Microsoft, Thunder Match Technology introduced a new line of affordable gadgets; the STOM range: STOM SPECTRUM i100 2-in-1 device and the STOM PC Stick.[8][9][10]

TMT Today[edit]

In July 2018, Thunder Match Technology was rebranded as TMT (stylized as tmt), to signify a shift in the business and brand direction of the company as a whole. With TMT, the company aims to be the market leader that forefronts digital-led transformation in the market, and provide more than just computers to the next generation of savvy and discerning consumers. To that end, the company has embarked on a series of changes to offer consumers a wide array of digital lifestyle products, as well as increasing its reach by partnering with leading online marketplaces to capture both the offline and online market respectively.

In September 2018, TMT partnered with Southeast Asia leading e-commerce platform Shopee to bring Malaysia’s largest online IT store to the fore[11][12] and also recognized as the top-performing brand for Shopee's first-ever Super Brand Festival.
