Critical Reception[edit]
Handling of Serious Subjects[edit]
The series was often praised for it's delivery of serious subjects to the young audience that typically watches Disney Channel. The episode "The Time I... Realized My Brother Was Different," which shows a young girl describing her brother's struggles with autism, was met with positive reviews from online journalists and blogs.[3][4][5][6]
Social Media Presence[edit]
In June 2018, social media users came across the episode "The Time I... Became a Big Sister" which features Zendaya portraying the role of a young girl named Jasmine, and telling the story of when her family adopted a child from Ethiopia. Many users were in shock that the segments were seemingly staged or fabricated. With some claiming that the episode in question was never aired or that they never saw it. Other than this episode and "The Time I... Gave Myself a Second Chance," which features Adam Irrigoyen, and "The Time I... Was a Lousy Friend,"[7] it is unknown if any other episodes were staged.
The series has also been subject to various internet memes that poke fun at the episodes. Most notably the episode "The Time I... Found Out I Have Dyslexia."
