Tahir Javed is a Pakistani American entrepreneur, investor, business magnate and philanthropist. He is the founder of various businesses like Riceland Healthcare.[1] that is an integrated network of physicians, hospitals, hospice, home health, surgery centers, imaging centers, rural health clinics and other services across South East Texas.
Early life and education[edit]
Tahir Javed was born on April 12th, 1966 in Lahore, Pakistan and and graduated in B.A Economics from Punjab University in Pakistan[2] and moved thousand miles from his homeland to settle down in Beaumont, Texas and established his business here.
Career[edit]
Tahir Javed started to work at a convenience store in Beaumont Texas and then in 1992 started his own distribution company called Starco Impex Inc.[3] Tahir Javed is also the CEO & president of Riceland Healthcare.[1]
Politics[edit]
Tahir Javed has been involved in raising funds for the democratic party. He hosted then presidential candidate Hillary Clinton at his house in Beaumont TX and has been actively raising funds for democratic senators and congressmen.[4] In Feb 2018, Senator Chuck Schumer Endorsed Tahir Javed for his congressional race. U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has officially picked Javed in the crowded 7-candidate field looking to replace U.S. Rep. Gene Green, a Democrat who is retiring from Congress.[5][6] On Dec 1st, 2017 he announced that he is running for Congress for 29th Congressional District, Texas.[1] Tahir Javed secured 20.7% running as the only non latino candidate in Texas 29th House District. He lost to State Senator Sylvia R. Garcia.[7] On June 15th 2018, Mayor Sylvester Turner announced that the City of Houston is bidding for the Democratic National Convention 2020. Tahir Javed is a part of that host committee.[8]
