Tammy Evans Yonce

Tammy Evans Yonce (born Atlanta, Georgia) is an American flutist who specializes in new music and specifically music written for the Glissando Headjoint.[1]

Education[edit]

Tammy Evans Yonce earned a BM in flute performance from Kennesaw State University, an MM in flute performance (with a Baroque flute cognate) from Indiana University, and a DMA in flute performance (with a musicology minor) from the University of Georgia. Her dissertation focuses on chamber music involving flute by Joan Tower.[2]

Career[edit]

Tammy Evans Yonce has served on the faculties of Gainesville State College (now University of North Georgia), University of South Carolina Aiken, and Newberry College. She is currently Assistant Professor of Music at South Dakota State University, where she teaches applied flute, woodwind pedagogy, and courses in musicology. She also teaches within the South Dakota State University Honors College.[3]

Yonce is an active performer and teacher across the Midwest and Southeastern United States. Her international professional engagements have included events in Canada, United Kingdom, and Israel.[4] She is an active commissioner of new works for flute and is a Powell Flutes Artist. [5] She currently serves on the New Music Advisory Committee of the National Flute Association. [6]

As a writer, Tammy Evans Yonce focuses on the areas of flute pedagogy and new music for flute. She has contributed to The Flutist Quarterly; The Flute View; Pan, the Journal of the British Flute Society; Flute Talk; and South Dakota Musician.[7] She contributes album reviews for The Flute View. [8]
