Tamsin Astor, PhD - (Katharine) Tamsin Astor is a resident of Shaker Heights, Ohio. She is a member of the the Astor_family, most notably the great-granddaughter of Nancy_Astor,_Viscountess_Astor, the first female Member of the British Parliament. Here grandfather, Michael_Astor was elected to the British Parliament in 1945. Tamsin has a BSc in Psychology, a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology/Neuroscience. She is certified in Yoga and Yoga Education. In addition, Tamsin has a Living Ayurveda Certification and is a certified Yoga Health Coach and a certified Executive Coach. She states that her ethos and work are focused on helping busy people organize themselves, so they have more time for what they want and need, as well as time for fun. She considers herself as a Chief Habit Scientist helping people create connections between daily habits, to reduce decisions and create a joyful life. This ethos is now presented in writings, lectures, blogs and online videos among her followers and is generally available on various websites.

Early life and Education[edit]

Astor was born in Wimbledon, London in June of 1976. Her parents were Jane and James Astor. She attended the Godolphin and Latymer School, a school for girls in Hammersmith, West London. She earned her undergraduate degree from University College London's Department of Psychology and received her PhD from the UCL's Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience.


Academic Career and notable writings[edit]

In 2000, Astor moved from London to St. Louis, MO. There she was an Adjunct Psychology Lecturer at Fontbonne University and had a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Department of Education at Washington University in St. Louis on a National Science Foundation grant for CISTL - Center for Inquiry in Science Teaching and Learning. (2003-2005) Her writings were published as follows:

  • Book - "Intention and Reactivity" 2002.[1]
  • Book - "Attention in Action: Advances from Cognitive Neuroscience (Advances in Behavioural Brain Science)" in 2005.[2]

Personal life and Career shift[edit]

By the time she moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 2007, she had taken a break from her academic career. While on her break from academia, one of her children developed lymphoma, creating a family crisis. One of the ways that Astor was able to cope with this, was turning to yoga. This was a turning point in her life and career; where she trained a certified yoga instructor and created a synthesis between yoga, meditation and her neuroscience background. Combining the religion, philosophy, and practices of yoga with her knowledge of neuroscience, she began to expand into mediation and Ayurveda. That led her into lecturing[6], writing and coaching. As she has gained prominence. She is a sought-after subject of lifestyle interviews [7] as well as leading classes as a self-styled "Chief Habit Scientist."
Her first book represented the union of western neuroscience academia and her eastern disciplines "The Healthy S.E.X. Habit: Get On Top of Your Life by Managing Your Sleeping, Eating & Exercising" and was self-published in 2017. A new edition, re-titled "Force of Habit: Unleash Your Power By Developing Great Habits"[8] will be released August 15, 2018 by Mango Publishing.[9]
