Tania Alaby

Tania Alaby (born April 21, 1992, in Montreal) is a Canadian former professional tennis player.

She was the 2008 Canadian Nationals Doubles Champion U16 with partner Marianne Jodoin.[1] She received media coverage in the prominent Canadian newspaper Les Versants Du Mont-Bruno for her notable national accomplishment. [2] [3] [4]

Alaby achieved a career-high combined ranking of 968 on the ITF Circuit [5] and additionally competed on the WTA circuit. Throughout her career, she competed against numerous world ranked players including Sachia Vickery, Eugenie Bouchard, Nicole Melichar, Story Tweedie-Yates, Alexis King, Maureen Drake, Kaitlyn Christian, Amanda Fink, Rishika Sunkara, Sandra Zaniewska, Lauren Embree and Emily J. Harman.[6] [5]

During her career, Alaby partnered in doubles with WTA former world number 51 Alina Jidkova,[7] and acted as a hitting partner at the Charleston Open, a professional women's tournament with a $750,000 purse and at the Rogers Cup hitting with Victor Hănescu. When in Montreal, Alaby trained with the National Tennis Center (NTC) Junior Women's Canadian Team alongside Carol Zhao and Françoise Abanda and was a hitting partner for Rebecca Marino.

She competed in her last professional match at the Challenge Bell, a $220,000 tournament where she lost to number 239 (number 7 seed) Gail Brodsky (USA) 1-6, 3-6. [7]

Alaby began playing tennis at age 12, training alongside Valérie Tétreault and Eugenie Bouchard and was coached by former WTA world number 21 Aleksandra Wozniak's father, Antoni Wozniak, and former Tennis Canada national coach Yann Lefebvre [8], coach of Sébastien Lareau. At age 16, Alaby moved to Florida to train with former Olympic Romanian coach, Theodore Ionesco.

A former long-distance runner and triathlete, Alaby achieved national times at the Marathon Oasis de Montreal, placing 2nd in her age category (1:32:05), Ottawa Half-Marathon (1:31:53), Triathlon de Magog (2:36:43), Triathlon Verdun (1:19:28) and Tour Du Lake Brome Half Marathon (1:34:16). [9]

She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in clinical psychology while sharing her passion for helping others develop and maintain a physically and mentally healthy lifestyle. Since 2009, she has been an active Lululemon Sweat Collective Ambassador and is a lifelong advocate for wellness and mental health. Alaby is a certified United States Tennis Association (USPTA), [10] Cardio Tennis and Tennis Canada tennis professional.
