Tarkati (Urdu = تركتي) is a village of Kharmang District. It is situated in North Pakistan. Tarkati the name given by Indian Army during Dogra Raaj, that comes from Panjabi words Tar and Kati. Tar means "Coal" and kati means "Breakdown"[1] . The old name of this village is Starghachan that is in Balti language which means walnut ,[2]. This name have history that the people of neighbour Humzigone, Sinkarmo and Morol use to cross Indus River through the walnut tree that present just beside the Indus River. This village is situated, 123 kilometres away from Skardu in its east.

It is located in between the Karakoram and Himalayas Range of mountains in Northern Pakistan, Beside the Indus bank. It is near to Kargil and Ladakh Indian-occupied Kashmir.

In East Humzigone village is located, In West Torgone Valley, In South Mashing and in North Shiriting is located. In northeast Sinkarmo and in southwest Olding Kharmang is situated.

Language[edit]

Majority of people speak Shina language and minority people speak Balti language, but the both Shin and Balti people of this village speak both languages as native and Urdu and English are the second languages.

People[edit]

Majority of people Shin and balti are in minority. The people of this village associate with cultivation. People rear cattle, sheep, and goats. Many youngsters of village join the Pakistan Army. The first martyr of Tarkati is Sipahi Muhammad Younus Baig. During the 1999 Pakistan India War many people of this village migrate to other cities of Pakistan, like Skardu,Karachi and other cities.

Education[edit]

The education system started in 1972, under the Government of Pakistan and made one middle school for boys[3]. After that, the villagers and the neighbor villagers come to get knowledge and this school introduce many doctors, engineers and teachers. Now, here two government high schools are working, for boys and girls. And two private school system open recently. Now, people of village are well educated and they are working in every field of life, like medical and engineering.
