Ternio is a blockchain company headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia which operates primarily in the online advertising industry. The company is responsible for developing and maintaining the Lexicon blockchain framework.

Lexicon is based on IBM's Hyperledger Fabric and Stellar payment network. The framework provides smart contracts as well as a communication layer for the transfer of data.[1] Lexicon can process over 1 million transactions per second. [2] It is the first blockchain company to reach this transaction milestone and also have a verification given after an audit by a blockchain security firm. [3]

Programmatic Online Advertising[edit]

Ternio provides the Lexicon framework to companies in the online advertising industry to enable transparency into ad transactions.[2] The technology combats concerns over brand safety and ad fraud, to misleading ad reach measurement, which has commonly plagued programmatic advertising. [4] Marc Pritchard of Proctor and Gamble referenced the digital advertising landscape as “murky at best, fraudulent at worst.”[5]

Companies using Lexicon include advertisers, website publishers and ad technology providers who use it to verify users, instantaneously pay publishers and protect advertisers from ad fraud.[6] Advertisers use this technology to impede automated systems such as bots allowing advertisers to display their ads to verified users. [7] The framework provides a faster alternative to Ethereum which is currently limited in terms of transactions per second. [8] The ability to scale is an important factor as programmatic advertising creates more transactions than Visa Inc. and Mastercard combined. [9]

Ternio presented their technology at the Blockchain Innovation and Investment Summit in Dubai on March 19th, 2018. [9]

Ignition One is uses Lexicon so advertisers gain transparency of their ad spend throughout the entire supply chain – including what is being bought, where it is purchased, and the value of that buy.[10]

Name Meaning[edit]

The name Ternio is derived from Latin, meaning ‘A series of three’. This represents all the 3 aspects of the digital advertising platform: the user, publisher and advertiser.[11] TERN is the digitized asset used on Lexicon for instantaneous transactions. The market holds TERN to create a form of checks and balances for the distributed ledger.

Industries[edit]

The Lexicon framework has the potential to be used by any company using blockchain technology like trading, consumer payments or banking. At this time the company has decided to remain focused on online advertising[5] RPM Ad Agency uses Ternio's Lexicon framework to execute campaigns. [12]

TERN Token[edit]

Ternio held a token sale also known as an initial coin offering to distribute the TERN token. [13] The token is utilized as a digitized asset on the Lexicon blockchain and tied to the smart contract. TERN is also traded on popular cryptocurrency exchanges.
