The Basement (2018 Film)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Basement (2018 Film)[1]is a 2018 American psychological horror film produced by Conley Entertainment Group and written, directed and produced by Brian M. Conley and Nathan Ives (with additional producing credits to Mark Heidelberger and Sean James Decker). The film stars Mischa Barton, Jackson Davis, Cayleb Long, Bailey Anne Borders, Sarah Nicklin, Tracie Thoms, Christa Conley and Jessica Sonneborn. The plot of ‘The Basement‘, which Sam Santiago of TrulyDisturbing.com[2] likened to a cross between ‘The Silence of the Lambs (film)’ and ‘Split (2016 American film)’, is about a L.A. serial killer known as The Gemini (Jackson Davis), who tortures and ultimately murders his victims in the dungeon-like basement of his San Fernando Valley home.

The film premiered at the 2017 Shriekfest[3] Horror Film Festival in Hollywood, CA, on October 7, 2017, and in 2018 won awards for Best Feature and Best Actor (for Davis) at Horror Hound Film Festival in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Speaking to ComingSoon.net, Conley said of the project, “In the fall of 2015, Nathan and I decided to write a horror movie together, and The Basement is the result of that. While co-writing and, especially, co-directing can obviously be fraught with problems, the dynamic between Nathan and I worked great from the first day we started working on the script together to the last day of post production.”[4]

Release[edit]

The film premiered at the 2017 Shriekfest Horror Film Festival in Hollywood, CA, on October 7, 2017, where it was nominated for Best Feature.

Critical Response[edit]

According to Dread Central’s Staci Wilson, actor “Jackson Davis is astoundingly adept as the multiple-personality murderer.”[5] Horror Freak News’ Michael Klug gave the film 4 out of 5 stars, noting, “Jackson Davis’ performance is too powerful to be ignored.” [6] Horror Buzz’s Remy Cashman said of the The Basement, “utterly demented as it is darkly humorous, with one of the more diabolical plot twists in recent memory.” [7]
