Since 1992, the largest and longest standing Western Canada paintball event has been running. The National Paintball Championship hosted by the CPPL. Formerly known as the MR Paintball Series. [1]The first inaugural event hosted less than 10 teams from Canada. Since then, the National Championships has hosted teams and players from all over the world coming as far as Sweden and Asia. The event now hosts more than 30 teams each year.

Originally played on the Calgary Stampede grounds, for the last 5 years it is played at Paintball Action Games in Edmonton, Alberta, every January. Each year has evolved to include multiple formats. From 10 man to 7 man to 5 man and X-Ball.

The National Paintball Championship also hosts the grand finale event from the CPPL yearly series – the Annual All Star event. At each of the 5 CPPL events throughout the year, players can earn all-star points which are tallied up at the end of the season. The top 20 point earners are given the opportunity to play in the All Star event. Paint and jerseys are provided free of charge and the players play a full 45 minute match.
