The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation

The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation is an international nonprofit organization founded by Rich Harwood in 1988 as The Harwood Group.[1] The Institute functions as a nonpartisan thought-leader in civic engagement and public innovation, researching and evaluating tool sets for empowering self-guided community change and increasing civic engagement. The Institute is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland.

History[edit]

The Harwood Institute and The Harwood Group co-existed for some time before consolidating into one nonprofit entity in 1998.[1] Since its inception, The Harwood Institute has worked in all 50 states and 40 countries, and partners with organizations like United Way Worldwide, Goodwill Industries International, AARP, The Corporation For Public Broadcasting, The American Library Association, and The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.[2]
