Plot[edit]
Maria, a young Asian Women adopted and raised by Caucasian Parents in the UK, is currently separated from her husband and also running a comic publishing company. Deep within she feels a sense of loss and unbelonging, and estranged from those around her. With a wounded sense of inferiority about her identity; which she disguises with a sheath of dominance, superiority and arrogance.
With a sense of tension mounting as she needs to publish a new comic based on a super woman who saves a city from a Tsunami, she feels she must choose between her work and family life as her Husband wants to return to the village he grew up in and take care of his family estate. The Films begins the day after her husband has left her and walked away from the house, the same day she aborts her early pregnancy.
She has an Indian maid Madhavi, who is an illegal immigrant. Though the maid works with intense care and perfection, her presence and efforts is often ignored. Eventually, Madhavi sacrifices her own life to rescue Maria from an accident during their travel for work. Being an illegal migrant, the police officers state there is no one by that name which exists in the country. Maria soon does some digging of her own and comes to know, Madhavi has a daughter Bhanu, back in Kerala, India and so makes the journey to India to let the family know what has happened but soon discovers upon her arrival and after many interactions with Bhanu, that she would like to adopt her instead and give her a better life. So, Maria hides the fact that she knows Bhanu's mother is dead.
Later when she witnesses the innocence and organic childhood Bhanu has, she changes her decision about adoption. But will Bhanu ever come to know that her mother is dead?
Upon Maria's return to the UK ready to publish her new comic, she drives to her ex husband, to return his belongings that he left behind and with an invitation for the new comic release. She eventually reveals that she had aborted their child and the actual reason why she wanted him to stay away.
With tensions in the air, Maria must decide how she uproots herself from the mistakes and events of her past in order to move forward with her life, unknowing whether her husband will forgive her and how Bhanu and her father will move on.
