Timothée Duperray (born December 7, 1994), known professionally as Tim Dup, is a French singer and songwriter[2]. Tim's music style mixes both hip-hop, rap and the more traditional French Chanson making it a new and unique style appealing to both younger and older French generations.[3]

Early life[edit]

Timothée Duperray was born on 7th December 1994 in Rambouillet, a small town on the outskirts of Paris. Encouraged by his parents, and along his other siblings, he learnt to play the piano at the age of 7[4]. He started songwriting when he was in secondary school. "I wrote my first song to impress a female friend at my school", Dup said.[5]. Tim studied a Master degree at the CELSA in Neuilly-sur-Seine near Paris. He performed gigs in his home town and other gigs in Paris while he was studying in college.

Influences[edit]

As a kid, Tim listened to a lot of songs from the Beatles "because my father was a fan", speaking on an interview. Tim cited American rap and English hip-hop as his main musical influences. He admits he has been heavily influenced by Daft Punk then turned to hip-hop music before performing as a professional.[6]. He sings predominantly in French and his style is a mixture of hip-hop and rap but aligns mainly with the more traditional French Chanson.

Charity Work[edit]

In March 6th, 2018, Dup takes part in a jury for a speech contest #BalanceTonSpeech, organised by Women Safe et Sciences Po Saint-Germain-en-Laye, to campaign against Violence against women[7]

Music Career[edit]

Before his first album was released, he started to perform in various music festivals in France. He made his tour debuts with various French singers such as Cœur de Pirate, Benjamin Biolay and Lou Doillon.[2] Dup set-up his own record label with the help of his father Philippe in the first months of 2016. Few months later in April 2016, Dup signed a contract with Columbia (Sony Music) and released his first EP "Vers les ourses polaires". His first album "Mélancolie heureuse"[8] was released in October 2017.
