Tim Whiteman

Tim Whiteman is a British former professional hockey player and current school teacher.

Hockey Career[edit]

His international debut in the England Men's field hockey.[1] team came on the 10th of January 2014 against India[2]. Whiteman has won 54[3]international caps in his career and was described as the teams 'lucky charm'[2] by coach Bobby Crutchley due to not receiving a single international loss in his first nine matches.

Whiteman started playing hockey as a child for the Harleston Magpies until he was 18[1]. He then played for the England Men's under 21's Hockey team[2] and then joined Beeston Hockey club in Nottingham. In 2017 he re-joined his childhood team, the Harleston Magpies, as a player and a coach[4]

Head Injury[edit]

Whiteman received a mild traumatic brain injury in mid 2019 while playing for the Harleston Magpies men's team. Whiteman was struck just above his left eye when playing field hockey when the ball ricocheted upwards off his hockey stick and into his face.[3]

Teaching Career and Education[edit]

Whiteman earned a BA in History at Nottingham Trent[1] university then went on to receive a masters[5] from the university of London. Whiteman has worked as a high school teacher at many schools including Repton[2] and North Walsham[6] as a History and Politics teacher as well as coaching hockey at these schools. Whiteman currently teaches History and Politics at Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form[citation needed].
