The Troy–UAB football rivalry is a college football rivalry game between two public universities in the U.S. State of Alabama, Troy University Trojans and the University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazers (UAB).[1] The two schools are only a 140 mile drive (2 hrs and 20 mins)[2] apart with Troy University being located in Troy, Alabama[3] and UAB located in Birmingham, Alabama.[4] The two schools first faced each other on September 6, 1993 with Troy emerging victorious 37-3 at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama.[5] The two have met a total of 12 times between 1993 and 2014 with Troy leading the series 7-5. The last matchup between the two rivals was on August 30, 2014 at historic Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama with UAB winning 48-10.[6] The 2014 game was the last for the foreseeable future. After the 2014 season the UAB Blazers shutdown the football program.[7] Though the UAB Blazers football program would later return two years later for the 2017 season[8] the damage had already been done when it came to scheduling certain non-conference games. When UAB Blazers shut down Troy quickly scheduled a new non-conference opponent in their place and completed their non-conference schedule through 2021.[9] No games between the two schools have been scheduled since the shutdown and revival of the UAB football program.[10][11]

It was before the Blazers' football program shutdown. The problem is before UAB rebooted the football program, Troy has moved into a different direction without that in-state rivalry.
