Underwood (London) is an Italian brand, despite the name of it, with the core business focused on production of watch cases and luxury storage goods for watch collectors and jewelry items. Founded in 1945 from Rustioni family in Florence, today the company preserved the artisan philosophy of them production.[1]
History[edit]
The history of the brand can be traced all the way back in 1945 when Mr.Edgardo Rustioni, qualified as master artisan leather craftsman in 1926, founded the company after the world war II in Florence. At the beginning the company was specialized in production of desk accessories in leather. With a positive global macro-economy years, Mr.Rustioni expanded the company introducing the production of watch cases covered in leather and jewelry storage boxes.[2]
In 1973 the son of Edgardo, Mr.Alessandro Rustioni, that was working in the company as apprentice, took the place of the father as CEO maintaining Edgardo Rustioni as President of the company. With the new administration the brand underwood (london) raised from Italian-British company to an international brand, increasing the collection of the luxury accessories. In fact the production pass from to manufacture watch boxes and jewelry cases for the brand and for third party, to increasing the collection with small leather goods, briefcases and executive business items.In 1990 the company opened a personal store in London, in Burlington Arcade. The store core business was on leather desk accessories, watch and jewelry cases, small leather goods, briefcases. The particular retro-design was appreciated from the consumers. The store in London given at the company the funds to invest in a particular project for watch collectors. In 1990 Mr.Alessandro Rustioni took the opportunity to improve one item, already in the market from the watch makers companies, and give it the luxury style: the modular winding system from Underwood. A collection of watch winder cases were created with the watch winder module unit called Rotobox and the cases in wood covered in calf leather. Despite other products every module unit can be removed from the case and is possible to turn-on or off every single module with just one ac-adapter on the back of the case.[3]
