Unified Data Access & Protection Treatment (or UDAPT)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Unified Data Access & Protection Treatment (or UDAPT) is term referring to the way an organisation can address the problem of valuable data, its organisation, how access to that data is managed, and how it’s protected. UDAP is a management approach to the handling of data, not a technology, service or protocol. UDAP advocates treating data and its handling seriously, unifying that thinking to bring together processes and services into a single strategy for data management within the organisation.

Organisations in business and elsewhere have an increasing dependency on data. Whereas pools of data and their use might have been fragmented across different parts of the organisation in the past, data is now central to the effective operation and value of the organisation. The importance of data means that it is now poor practice to allow data to accumulate in disparate places, with varied degrees of safety, access methods and permissions, and effectiveness of protection. Organisations must reflect their data dependency by treating data seriously as a critical asset, developing co-ordinated processes and services to look after that data, to store it wisely, grant access to it carefully, and protect it from inadvertent and malicious damage or destruction.
