USA-MAG came about as a result of a 2008 agreement between then U.S. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice and then Saudi Arabia's Minister of Interior Nayef bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.[1]

Mission[edit]

USA-MAG coordinates security cooperation efforts to train, advise, and assist the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Interior (Saudi Arabia) and Presidency of State Security in protecting critical energy infrastructure sites, counter-terrorism, and train their aviation program through military exercises and professional military education in order to promote regional domestic security and to protect common interests of the two countries while strengthening strategic partnership.[2] The Ministry of Interior (MOI) security forces are comprised of the Facilities Security Forces who are primarily tasked with the protection of Saudi Arabia's critical energy infrastructure assets. The Presidency of State Security (PSS) security forces are the Special Security Forces who are tasked with combatting counter-terrorism within the Kingdom. The General Security Aviation Command is the PSS's aviation component.

Chain of Command

USA-MAG falls under the leadership of the US Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, who has overall responsibility for all US Government activities in the country.
