Unlock: The Haunted App is a 2020 Hindi-language horror-thriller drama film directed by Debatma Mandal.[1] It is written by Mohan Azad and Bhuvanesh Shrivastava whereas produced by Shakir Khan and Bhuvanesh Shrivastava under two production banner Wind Horse Films and Krasnaya Corporation acquired by ZEE5.[2] The film stars Kushal Tandon, Hina Khan in the main lead roles while also features Aditi Arya and Rishabh Sinha in supporting roles.[3] The movie is about an obsessive 25 year old woman who realizes that she is about to lose the man of her dreams Amar to her flat-mate Riddhi.[4] She is ready to do anything to make things right again, even installing an app off the deep web that grants ones darkest wishes in three tasks that get sinister as one progresses.[5] The film was streamed via ZEE5 platform on 27 June 2020.[6]
Synopsis[edit]
Suhani has been obsessed with a boy named Amar for some time now, from installing cameras in his house to observing him so closely as to know by his likes and dislikes. When all doors seem shut, Suhani gets the opportunity to install Friends, an app off the deep web that grants one of their wishes but with three tasks that need completing. The tasks are not some simple tasks but involve murder and killing of innocent people. When Suhani is already too deep in, in the journey to win over Amar, she wants to opt out, but one cannot leave the app midway. She realizes that she has been trapped and she has to complete the tasks for her to escape.[7]

On June 25, 2020, ZEE5 announced that Debatma Mandal is set to be the director alongside Bhuvanesh Shrivastava and Shakir Khan who will produce the film.[9] The film is produced by companies Krasnaya Corporation and Wind Horse Films [10]

Ronak Kotecha of The Times of India stated that "With an exciting idea at hand, this one could have unlocked a high-impact thriller, telling us more about the dark side of the internet. Instead, ‘Unlock’ gets caught in its own web of clichés and lazy execution that doesn’t click."[15]
