Development[edit]

In October 2015, Sony Pictures Animation announced an animated Ghostbusters movie is in development, with Ghostbusters co-creator Ivan Reitman set to produce the film alongside Kristine Belson and Michael Lachance.[3] On March 8, 2016, it was reported that Fletcher Moules will direct the movie.[4] During an interview on August 7, 2017, Reitman revealed that work on the television series Ghostbusters: Ect Force was postponed in order to prioritize development on the film, which he said was because "[he] knew the animated feature was going to bring–going to at least go a long way to bring back the classical story [he, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis] originally started", so he wanted the film to be released before the series, plus, Reitman was revealed to be co-directing the film.[1] On October 2, 2017, it was revealed that the film will focus on the ghosts rather than the Ghostbusters.[2] On January 15, 2019, it was reported that the film is set to be released after Ghostbusters: Afterlife.[5]
