VEITH Method

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The VEITH Method is a system of rapid, logical-systematic and effective learning developed by the German researcher, thinker and educator Dr. Daniel Veith. The effectiveness of this didactic model has been demonstrated for 20 years in universities and language schools in Europe and Latin America.

Origin and development[edit]

Five days before a trip to Chile, Veith took it upon himself to learn the Spanish language and, by the time he arrived, was able to converse with the locals. This was the birth of the VEITH Method, with which it is possible through extreme compression and logical-systematic linking of content to teach any knowledge program in half or even a third of the conventional time.[1]

In this way, he taught himself several more languages and completed his school education with the final examinations of the German "Abitur" (diploma of access to the university) requiring only a week of preparation. He undertook his university studies in three disciplines – Romance Philology, German Philology, and History of Art – to the degree of "Magister Artium" (master) in a year and a half and wrote his doctoral thesis of linguistics in 5 months.[2]

This personal method, which can be applied to the learning of any didactic content, was adapted by Dr. Veith into an initial version for the general public for the study of languages, specifically a German course for Spanish speakers.

After years of teaching German at universities and language schools (2003-2006), Dr. Veith was able to apply and improve the VEITH Method in an academic setting during his residency as lecturer of German Philology at the University of Salamanca in Spain (2007-2011). With the aim of achieving financial independence to be able to pursue other scientific, cultural and artistic projects, he and his future wife Dr. Evelyn Veith set up the first VEITH Institut Language School in the Spanish capital of Madrid (2012)[3]. In conjunction, the VEITH R+D Agency was created (2013) to explore new didactic concepts, design curricula and educational content and outline objective evaluation techniques with an absolute orientation in the student's real level of knowledge.[4]

The VEITH Method overview[1][edit]

The VEITH Method is aimed at people with a clear objective – to learn any educational programme in the shortest possible time. This is achieved by submitting any theoretical and practical content to three phases of didactic optimization: first to an extreme reduction, second to an absolute simplification and, finally, to a strictly logical, systematic and progressive combination.

In the case of languages, the VEITH Method isolates the similarities between the language being taught and that of the student's in order not to waste time on topics that the student will already be familiar with. In this way, it is possible to speed up the learning process and reduce a grammar book that would normally have 500-700 pages, to only 100. In addition, special emphasis is placed on the method's own didactic phonetics, again based on the student's native language, using a comparative explanation and articulatory-technical training of each sound.

The progression of the content learned is also controlled, with the level of requirement increasing gradually according to what has already been learned. While this may seem like an obvious approach, very few conventional course books actually put it into practice.

The VEITH Method also takes into account the age of the students being taught. While children require more experimentation, imitation and play in the classroom, adult learning must have its foundations in the logical understanding and the systematic connection of the contents. Also, rather than memorizing didactic content and then later doing exercises mechanically, the students are encouraged to reason logically and are guided using examples, questions and comparisons so that they themselves come to understand and explain the rules of the topic being studied.

Another key feature is that the entire process of materials development, teaching and evaluation is created, organized and performed under one roof. All teacher handbooks, course books, vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation manuals are produced and constantly updated by the development department VEITH R+D Agency and edited by Litamorphosis, the VEITH Method´s own publishing company. The teachers are fully trained in-house in all aspects of the VEITH Method, and accreditation of the student´s achievements is awarded through the VEITH Zertifikat, recognized by numerous institutions, companies and entities in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Spain, claiming to be the most demanding and complex language certificate available.
