V. Lakshminarayana Kumar is a Carnatic music Violinist. He is from a traditional music family, his father being the violin Vidwan V.L. Vedagiri. After completing his initial training from his father, Kumar underwent advanced training from Violin Maestros M.S. Anantharaman and T.N. Krishnan.[1]

Kumar's career started soon after he won the first prize in the 1983 All India Radio National competition.[citation needed] Since then, he has performed in many Sabhas, national programs[which?] and Sangeetha Sammelans in India. He has accompanied Dr. Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna, Sri. T.N. Seshagopalan, Dr. Madurai Somu, Dr. K.J. Yesudas, Dr. N. Ramani, Sri. T.V. Shankaranarayanan, Sri. S. Rajam, Dr. Kadri Gopalnath, Sri. Mandolin U. Srinivas, Sri. O.S. Thyagarajan, Smt. R. Vedavalli, Smt. Sudha Raghunathan, Sri. Sanjay Subramaniam, Smt. Vijayalakshmi Nityanandam, Sri. Raghu Ravi, Smt. Mani Krishnaswamy, Sri. Srimushnam V. Rajarao, Smt. Padmaja Srinivasan, and Smt. Suganda Kalamegham.[citation needed]

Kumar was a staff artist of All India Radio, Chennai for from 1990 to 2016, and is graded "A-Top". Apart from being an artist for accompaniment, he is a solo artist and has released violin solo albums, the most recent being "Raaga Darshini" a set of 3 CDs with 16 chosen ragas for meditation. He has also provided violin accompaniment in the albums of many musicians.[2][3]. He has also done a few commercial and film recordings with prominent music directors including Isaignani Ilaiyaraja.[citation needed]

Kumar has collaborated with other artists[who?].[4][5]. He has led "Vadhya Tharangini" a veena, venu, and violin ensemble, since 1991. During his tenure at All India Radio, Chennai, Kumar conducted a project based on Carnatic and film music titled "Ranjani Sriranjani" every day in Vividbharathi program along with Sri. M.R. Gopinath[1]
