Developing a Socially Responsible Business Solution 2016-2017

Sponsored by PepsiCo Foundation

Aim: To design a noninvasive, non-intrusive technology-based method to evaluate the dietary needs of people living in areas with the highest rate of malnutrition and micro-nutrient deficiencies.

Mentor: Dr. Sarah Hibbert, Research Associate, University of Manchester, U.K. (Through New York Science Academy)

Guides: Dr. Rita Bhargava and Dr. Yogini Dolke (Both are Nutritionists in specify the place they belong to)

Procedure and Solution: Did several surveys, spoke to nearly 50 adults and 150 children in a village and a slum to identify the micronutrient deficient people and collected data of their dietary needs. Got the information of nutrition charts from a book Nutritive value of Indian Foods by C. Gopalan and S.C. Balasubramanian published by the National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad and utilized this information in developing an Android Based Mobile Application called Microlator which calculates micronutrient deficiency without a blood test.

Achievements:

Received an invitation for the bicentennial celebration from New York Science Academy for a fully funded trip along with chaperone to New York City to participate in Challenge 2030. Won a cash prize for the Microlator in Genesis: A National Level Working Model and Project Competition cum Exhibition and the Regional Level CBSE Science Exhibition in Mumbai. Got a rating of 4.78 /5 through online reviews and there were 1102 downloads across 18 different countries. Challenge 2 Manhattan, New York

Creating a Business Plan and presenting a Sales Pitch 2016-17

Introduction: Created a product concept, aligned with UN Sustainable Developmental Goals, and produced a compelling product pitch to convince potential investors to fund my socially responsible business solution, the Microlator, a Mobile Based Android Application developed for the first challenge.

Procedure: Developed an App (Microlator) that people could use to calculate the micronutrient deficiency. Created the Pitch Deck which outlined the problems addressed by the product, target audience or market; benefit(s) of the product and alignment to the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) analyzed my market research, did a competitive analysis and of finances.

Presented the product pitch in a “Shark Tank” like set-up to the VIPs attending the challenge 2030 event of New York Academy of Sciences at Manhattan Headquarters.

Achievement:

Got an opportunity to present the project to Nobel Laureates, representatives from academia, Fortune 500 Companies, leading NGOs, Scientific Organizations, and other groups. Awarded for the Best Idea for Start-ups in TiE a Business Competition for Young Entrepreneurs, Nagpur for creating a business plan and presenting a sales pitch on that project. Designing a Battery Operated Car 2016

Aim: To promote the use of battery operated cars in the city (Nagpur) and also to reduce the usage of fuels emitting carbon.

Procedure: Made a battery operated car which had special features like a seating capacity of 4, a power to weight ratio of 500 kgs, 12 volt batteries, BC Controller, Differential BDC Motor, Steering Rack and Pinion, Leaf Spring, Drum Brake etc.

Achievement:

• The Car was used by Orange City - Nagpur Runners Club to promote their activities and to promote eco-friendly transport options among the natives.

· Worked with the club members and volunteers for segregating the bio-degradable and the non-biodegradable waste.
