Vikas Khemani is the President & CEO at Edelweiss Securities Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Edelweiss Group.[1], one of India's leading diversified financial services conglomerates. Vikas Khemani manages Capital Markets business of Edelweiss which includes Institutional Equities, Investment Banking, Prime Broking, among others.[2][3]
He shares his views on Capital markets with the business media[4][5], through media appearances[6][7], articles and on his blog. He is also active on social media.
His hobbies include running the Marathon, playing Poker; and he is also interested in psychology, spirituality and leadership[8].
He is an active member of the Young Presidents Organisation (YPO), a global network of young chief executives and has served on the Advisory Committee of the Indian Clearing Corporation Limited. He is a member of the CII National Council on Corporate Governance[9] and a member Capital Markets Committee of FICCI and an active member of Mumbai Angel Investing Network[10].
Early Life and Education[edit]
Vikas Khemani was born in Mandawa, a town in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district in the family of cloth merchants, where he lived in a joint family of around 50 people.[11] At the age of 10, he started managing his uncle's transport business, after school hours. He along with his family later shifted to Surat in Gujarat in 1989, where he completed the remainder of his schooling from Vidya Bharati Vidyalaya. In 1992, while in college, he started investing in stock markets by borrowing money from his father.[12] [13] After graduating from South Gujarat University in 1996, he came to Mumbai to complete his Chartered Accountancy[14]. and to pursue an internship alongside.
In his initial days in Mumbai, he stayed at the Rajasthan Vidyarthi Griha (RVG), a hostel for students from Rajasthan & other parts of the country aspiring to study the Chartered Accountancy course.[15]
In 1997, he cleared his CA. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst, from the CFA Institute, USA.[16]
He was Awarded Young Professional Achievers Award for the service sector by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in 2014.
Family[edit]
Vikas Khemani is second of four children. He is married to Swati Khemani[17] who is also a Chartered Accountant, whom he met when working at Edelweiss. The couple has two daughters’ Aahana and Arianna[18]. His Parents and siblings are based in Surat and engaged in their own business of consumer goods.
Career[edit]
Vikas Khemani competed his Chartered Accountancy Course at the age of 21 after his internship at Lodha & Co a CA firm based in Mumbai. After his Chartered Accountancy, he joined Essar Investments Limited, where he worked for about a year and in 1999 he later joined ICICI Securities[19]
In 2002, he joined Edelweiss Group, then a small company after meeting Rashesh Shah[20], co-founder and CEO, Edelweiss Group[21].
In his initial days, he faced numerous challenges like not being fluent at communication (especially in English) and a fear of public speaking, all of which he overcame through self learning.[22]
At Edelweiss, Vikas Khemani has been instrumental in setting up and scaling up range of businesses, such as Institutional Securities, Prime Broking, Equity Capital Markets among others[23]
He is a member of the Edelweiss Management Committee; and joined it as the youngest member of the committee at the age of 30.[24] [25]
