"Most of the stories in I Wasn't Crying Over You are based on my own life while some are products of my imagination."[1]

His long awaited sequel, Black Book of Poems II, is set to be released on September 21, 2018.

Early life[edit]

Hunanyan was born in Ijevan, Armenia to Armenian parents living in St. Petersburg, Russia. Vincent's parents divorced when the author was still a toddler, and he was raised, together with his two older brothers by his single-mother. During the summer of 2001, the family emigrated to Sweden and has since been living there. In 2010, at the age of 19, Hunanyan decided to move to the US in pursuit of higher education. He attended Santa Monica City College, and was later accepted into UCLA, earning a B.A. in English with a concentration in creative writing. Among Hunanyan's professors were Michelle Huneven, Mona Simpson and Karen Kevorkian.

Career[edit]

Hunanyan's passion for writing began at the age of 13, when the author, together with his childhood friend worked on rap lyrics they would record at home and release online. In time, those lyrics turned into poetry.

Though Hunanyan graduated UCLA in 2015, it wasn't until two years later that he would release his debut, accepting a sales job to "improve his communication skills" until finally quitting at the end of 2016.

The idea for Black Book of Poems was conceived after the author separated from his college girlfriend and decided to pursue a career in writing. The title for the collection comes from the lyrics of the song, Nobody Home by Pink Floyd.[2]

Black Book of Poems is a collection of poems in which the Hunanyan touches on the subjects of love, loss, abandonment, religion, depression and pain. Most poems have a structure and meter and a rhyming scheme. The book was well-received upon its release by both poetry fans and critics, with Robert Foreman of Foreword Clarion Reviews, concluding:

"Black Book of Poems is a collection with a distinct sensibility that gives attention to a wide range of subjects while living up to its disdain for pretension."[3]

As of August 2018, the book has been an Amazon bestseller for over 14 consecutive months with over 200 customer reviews.[4] The book was also featured on Hilary Swank's holiday wish list as reported by Today on December 8, 2017.[5]
