Vola.ro is an online travel agency which provides complete services: standard and low cost airline tickets, city breaks, holiday packages, hotels, travel insurance and car rental. It is the only online travel agency in Romania that provides the customers with a 24/7 Customer Care service. The Vola.ro team currently has 100 employees, with the largest department being Customer Relations.

Vola.ro was founded in 2007 by Daniel Truică, alongside Michal Wrodarczyk and Jaroslaw Adamski, being one of the first online travel agencies in Romania. In October of the same year, Fru.pl, a related business, starts operating on the Polish market.

In 2009, two patented services are launched: the Fare Calendar and the Fare Alert, designed to help travelers find the cheapest flight. In the same year, Vola.ro introduces the holiday packages in their range of services.

In 2015, Vola.ro receives an investment of €5 million from 3TS Capital Partners and Catalyst. It also launches Smart Connection, a unique service in Romania, which combines flights with up to 60% cheaper than classic airline tickets.

In 2017, the agency reaches 10 years of activity and launches the # vola10ani anniversary campaign, where each customer who purchases a product on Vola.ro receives a guaranteed prize. The big prize consists of 10 years of vacations for the winning customer.

Starting in 2017, Vola.ro decides to switch to net revenue reporting, being one of the first companies in the tourism industry to take this step.

In the first half of 2018, Vola.ro has a net turnover of 4.2 million euros, up 18.5% compared to the same period in 2017 and estimates an increase of 30% reaching a volume of over 80 million euro of intermediary transactions and becoming the largest travel company in Romania.[1]

Vola.ro is the first Romanian company to win the first place in the Deloitte Technology Fast50 for three years in a row, receiving the title of the fastest growing company in Central and Eastern Europe over the last 5 years.[2]

Vola.ro is the most well-known and used online travel agency in Romania, according to a GfK survey conducted in 2016.[3]

A year later, Vola.ro is designated as the most trusted online travel agency in Romania, following the Mercury Research study.[4]

In 2017, Vola.ro is designated as the best online travel agency in Romania, within the TopHotel Awards.[5]

In 2018, Vola.ro is collaborating with Burger King and Publicis Romania in the Whopper No-Show campaign, winning a Bronze Lion at the Cannes Lions International Creativity Festival, the Direct section.[6]

Smart Connection[edit]

Smart Connection is an exclusive Vola.ro product launched in 2015. It involves connecting two or more flights operated by different airlines, resulting in a unique route at a minimum price, up to 60% lower than in the case of standard plane tickets.[7]

Smart Connection Guarantee. For any Smart Connection flight, Vola.ro covers exceptional situations such as loss of connection due to delays, cancellations or time changes and provides ongoing support through the Customer Care department.

Ieftinuarie[edit]

Ieftinuarie is a unique concept, based on an analysis done by Vola.ro, which has shown that January is the best period of the year for the purchase of airline tickets and city breaks.

In January 2018, Vola.ro launches the Ieftinuarie campaign, which offers the best deals on airline tickets and city breaks, reduced by 50% and 60%, respectively.[8]

Fare Alert[edit]

The Fare Alert is a tool developed by Vola.ro, which allows travelers to receive personalized flight offers based on their own criteria: period, departure city, destination, journey duration and price.

Fare Calendar[edit]

The Fare Calendar on Vola.ro website displays the prices of airline tickets to a specific destination for a period of three months, indicating the dates when the lowest costs are.

This tool is particularly aimed at passengers with a flexible schedule, helping them to purchase the cheapest flight ticket.[9]
