Waltham Forest's Got Talent is a youth talent initiative, launched by the Barbican Centre in 2015. The idea has since been picked up by Local Authority, Waltham Forest London Borough Council and gained support of celebrity performers including Fleur East and Jermain Jackman

History[edit]

Waltham Forest's Got Talent was began in 2015, by the Barbican Centre with local student, Habone Mohammed, scooping the title of Winner that year..[1]. Following the success of the show in 2015, in 2019 Waltham Forest Council picked up the idea[2] designating it's Youth Mayor's Team to work on the project; Inspired by the SICK event[3], the Youth Mayor's Team (YMT) began planning for the show and launched on June 7th with the show's first auditions. The show is set to return in 2020.

Judges & Coaches[edit]

Judging of the competition will be done by the Youth Mayor's Team members. Assisting each Judge is set to be a celebrity coach. Local singers Jermain Jackman, winner of the voice 2014, Fleur East, 2014 X-Factor Finalist and local celebrities Luke November and Sol Downes[4] are confirmed to be on-board.

2019 - Waltham Forest Council[edit]

Following a meeting with her Youth Mayor's Team in 2019, Waltham Forest Council took up the event launching their flagship competiton in 2019. Mayor for the municipal year 2018-2019, Cllr. Sally Littlejohn announced at Annual Council on the 30th May 2019 that "looking beyond this civic year, members of the Mayor’s youth team are pulling together an ambitious programme to showcase some of the wonderful young performers in the borough."[5]

The event has been heavily youth-led, with management and production falling to the Youth Mayor's Team. Inline with this ethos, a series of youth-voice led reports have been made including in This is Local London in April 2019[6] and an article in the Waltham Forest Echo by Co-Ordinator Luke Willmoth[7]

The show kicked off on June 7th 2019 with further auditions following on June 28th[8] and July 19th.[9]
