Waylanders (video game)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Waylanders is an upcoming action role-playing game developed by Gato Salvaje Studio. It is currently in pre-alpha stage and is currently followed by a Kickstarter campaign.[1] It is planned to be released in early 2020.

Setting[edit]

The game is set in a fantasy version of Galicia and other regions of northern Spain.. The game-world is inspired by Asturian and Galician mythologies, which represent a mix between Celtic and Christian-Medieval cultures. The player is the one who is removed from the cycle of life and death, and is allowed to travel back and forth between two timelines of the game. Player will be tasked with protecting, authors say, "the legend and spirit of the Way of St. James".[2]

Mechanics[edit]

Other than controlling the main character, the players will also control his companions. They are split across different classes and can, together with the player, form formations which, authors say, will have different effects on them and enemies. They do not have the ability to travel in time, but will be able to reincarnate. This means that if the player wants to use the companions he met in the earlier (Celtic) period, he will have to find them in the later (medieval) period and raise them from the dead. Similarly, some quests can only be solved by doing something in the earlier timeline that will change things in the later timeline. The combat in the game is in real time with option of pausing. It is similar to that of games like Dragon Age or Neverwinter Nights, which serve as inspiration for other parts of the game too as Mike Laidlaw, one of the designers, was a former Bioware developer.[3] Emily Grace, a writer from Telltale is also working on the game. [4] Camera is in 3rd person with the ability to zoom.
