Wheal Pool
Wheal Pool is a Silver and Lead mine on the Penrose Estate in Helston, Cornwall, UK. The mine was first recorded in 1790 but it is thought to have been worked a long time before this. The mine closed in 1796 because of arguments about who owns the land but opened again in the 19th century. There is also a shaft here which goes down 50 fathoms (92 metres). The pump house held a 20" engine. All that is left of the pump house is the chimney, one wall and a small bit of the other. The mine closed towards the end of the 19th century.
