Wilde Westen vzw

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Wilde Westen vzw is the organisation that was founded in 2017, when Festival of Flandres Kortrijk and De Kreun decided to start collaborating[1]. With this mergure, Wilde Westen became one of the biggest concert- and festivalorganisers inside the Kortrijk-Lille-Tournai Eurometropole[2]. Wilde Westen organises performances in soundart, contemporay, jazz, classical, pop, rock and everything inbetween.

De Kreun De Kreun in Kortrijk is the central location for most activities organised by Wilde Westen. After being active for a period of 25 years in the town of Bissegem, the venue moved to the center of Kortrijk in 2006, occupying the old cinemabuilding Den Gouden Lanteern. In 2009, a brand new venue was opened in Musical centre Track, near the Kortrijk railway station. In de Kreun, there are at least 30 concerts organised every year, presenting a vast mix of genres.

Flanders Festival Kortrijk Flanders Festival Kortrijk is a festival in which Wilde Westen organises classical concerts on many locations throughout the city of Kortrijk. The festival is part of the Flanders Festival organisation[3], that is also active in cities like Ghent, Brussels and Antwerp. Many international artists bring their music to the festival, which makes it one of the biggest festival inside the French-Belgian Eurometropole. Within Flanders Festival Kortrijk, there's also Klinkende Stad (Sounding City), a festival that focuses on soundart. Joost Fonteyne, director at Wilde Westen, has over the years built a reputation in the soundart scene[4], presenting each year an interesting program with international sound artists. There's also the 'Listen To This' soundwalks, that allow people to discover the city of Kortrijk through the eyes and ears of soundartists. These walks are accessibe throughout the year.

Sonic City Each year, a well-known artist curates Sonic City Festival[5]. Together with Wilde Westen, this artist picks the bands to play the festival, and also takes care of a festival show. After previous collaborations with artists like Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), Savages and Preoccupations (f.k.a. Viet Cong), 2018 is the year of the Australian Courtney Barnett[6]. Barnett decided to go with girl power, picking a mostly female line-up, which can be seen as a statement in times of #metoo and male domination in (rock)music.

Bos! Festival Since 2017, Wilde Westen has also taken its place in the busy festival summer. With Bos! festival, a new festival was created, that focuses on a small-scale, local size, that focuses on a musical experience in a natural environment. With its focus on durability, the festival tries to present an alternative for the big summerfestivals that's accessible for the whole family. The second edition in 2018 has performances of Gabriel Rios, Sam Amidon and many others.
