Worst Episode Ever (A Simpsons Podcast) is an American podcast series produced and presented by Dan Mulhall and Jack Picone of WEE Studios. In it Dan and Jack watch a bad episode of The Simpsons from after the 1990's and have a discussion about it. Finally, they rank the episode on a master list of the worst episodes ever.[1]

Since the launch of the podcast it has attracted hundreds of subscribers. In December 2014, Worst Episode Ever (A Simpsons Podcast) was named by Apple as a "New and Noteworthy Podcast".[1] In 2015, it was featured in The A.V. Club's Podmass column[2] and in 2016 was recommended by CNET.[3]

Title[edit]

The title for Worst Episode Ever (A Simpsons Podcast) comes from a quote in an episode from Season 7 called "The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show" where Comic Book Guy displays his hatred for an episode of Itchy & Scratchy saying, "Last night's Itchy & Scratchy was, without a doubt, the worst episode ever! Rest assured that I was on the Internet within minutes, registering my disgust throughout the world."[4] The quote is used in another Season 12 episode called "Worst Episode Ever" where Comic Book Guy has a cardiac episode and says, "Worst episode ever!"[5] The intro to the show is Comic Book Guy saying worst episode ever.

Format[edit]

In each episode Jack and Dan watch a post-classic "The Simpsons" episode that has been suggested by a listener, discuss it and show their opinions and then rank it in a huge list of over 120 Simpsons episodes that they have previously watched. The show is full of references to other shows from the 80's and 90's, jokes about "The Simpsons" and funny recurring gags and impressions. Each episode is roughly 60 to 85 minutes long.[1]

Reception[edit]

Worst Episode Ever (A Simpsons Podcast) has been well received. In December 2014, it was named by I-Tunes as a "New and Noteworthy Podcast". In 2015, it was featured in The A.V. Club's Podmass column[2] and was called "breathtakingly self-indulgent" by The Village Voice. In 2016 it was recommended by CNET for its obsessive dissection of postclassic "Simpsons" episodes and increasingly ridiculous in-jokes.[3]
