The Wursthall Restaurant and Bierhaus is a restaurant located in San Mateo, California featuring German and Austrian inspired cuisine. The owners of Wursthall Restaurant and Bierhaus are Tyson Mao, Adam Simpson, and James Beard award-winning author J. Kenji López-Alt.



The menu features wursts, bratkartoffeln (crispy fried potatoes), and sandwiches. The taps offer 28 beers from Germany and Belgium, as well as local craft brews.


The restaurant is open every day; lunch is served 11:00 am - 4:00 pm, dinner 4:00 pm - 10:00 pm, and a late night menu 10:00 - midnight.

A second location, in San Jose, was announced in November 2018, and is expected to open in 2019.[1]


Wursthall Restaurant and Bierhaus was named to "The Best of the South Bay" by San Francisco Magazine in 2018.[2]
