XTM International was founded by Bob Willans and Andrzej Zydroń in 2002, and was an early creator of cloud-based translation management system (TMS). The company was originally called XML International but it rebranded as XTM International in 2010 with the launch of XTM Cloud. In 2021, K1 invested in XTM International.

The company is headquartered in London, with offices in the United States (New York), Japan (Tokyo), and Poland (Poznań). The company employs over 250 people worldwide.

Recognitions and Associations

In 2023, XTM International joined the MACH Alliance as a certified member. The MACH Alliance is a not-for-profit industry body whose aim is to future-proof enterprise technology and propel current and future digital experiences.

XTM is a member of the and Localization Association (GALA), a trade association and nonprofit organization that serves and supports the language services and technologies industry, as well as Tekom Europe, the largest professional association for technical communication in Europe. In 2019, XTM won the Think Global Localization Technology of the Year Award. The Think Global Forum is a panel of forward-looking industry experts from an array of sectors, including technology, travel, manufacturing, life sciences, retail, and eCommerce. XTM was an LT-Innovate Award Winner in 2012 as well as in 2014.

XTM Live

XTM International organizes annual XTM Live events. The conference offers an opportunity for attendees to meet localization professionals and hear from around 30 speakers over thought leadership sessions, case studies, panel discussions, and training sessions. In 2023, the event was hosted in London and brought together 200 professionals from the language-technology space.

ILVS Technology

In 2020, XTM International launched inter-language vector space (ILVS), XTM’s proprietary NLP framework powering all XTM Cloud AI features. ILVS represents words and their meanings across different languages in a unified manner. It enables AI models to understand and process language more effectively by creating a shared space where words from various languages are mapped together based on their semantic similarities.

AI-enhanced TM

This technology is a collaboration between SYSTRAN and XTM Cloud, leveraging SYSTRAN NFA. AI-enhanced TM is an XTM Cloud functionality that enables the SYSTRAN machine translation engine to deliver full matches using fuzzy matches coming from the XTM Cloud translation memory. For sentences that are already partially translated, the NMT engine can use existing matches to fill in the gaps and deliver a complete translation, or even adjust the fuzzy match if needed.

Weighted Token Levenshtein

Weighted Token Levenshtein (WTL) is XTM’s proprietary algorithm for translation memory leveraging. Unlike Q-gram, an industry standard that examines phrases and searches for corresponding character patterns, WTL generates fuzzy matches by considering and recognizing the syntax of the segments in the localization project.
