Yaron Kafkafi (born December 25, 1967) is composer, playwright and director based in Tel-Aviv, Israel.

For over two decades, Yaron Kafkafi has been one of the most acclaimed composers, lyricists and playwrights in Israel. He has written over 20 hit musicals earning him the local title “King of Musicals”.[1][2]

Yaron started his professional career as an actor and comedian. In 1992, he wrote, composed and directed "David - The Musical".[3] ‘David’ ran from 1992-2003 and turned into Israel's first cult musical.[4][5][6] ‘David’ had sold out productions throughout the country and launched several of its performers into celebrity status: Noa Tishby, Yael Bar Zohar and Yehuda Levi,. Following the success of ‘David’, Yaron was commissioned to write and compose the songs for an Israeli adaptation of "The Wizard of Oz", with Arik Lavie as the wizard. It is the only Israeli musical which had its soundtrack published in four different versions (1994, 1999, 2006, 2015).

Since then he has written, composed and occasionally directed a new musical almost every year: "The Prince and The Pauper” with Chaim Topol and Arnon Milchan as producers (1996), "The Heart" (1997), "Hasamba - The Secret Pack" (1998), "Around the World in Eighty Days" (1999, 2007, 2017) was his first commercial success as a director as well as playwright and composer.[7] The revival in 2007 was equally applauded.[8] "King of Siam" (2000, 2012), "King Arthur" (2001), "Speed and his Magic Wheels" (2003)[9], "Peter Pan" (2004, 2012, 2015), "1976" (2006), "The Three Musketeers" (2013), "Noah's Ark" (2016), "The Golden Gate" (2016) and "Born in Jerusalem" (2016), a musical blockbuster based on the autobiography of rgw actor and singer Yehoram Gaon..

His original musicals "Living Example" (2004, 2008, 2015) and "Can't Help It" (2007) won the esteemed Autumn Theatre Festival of Tel-Aviv's Best Play award[10].
In 2015, he wrote and composed the musical "Messiah" which earned 5 prizes at the Bat-Yam musical festival, and was praised by critics.[11][12][13]
Yaron is currently adapting “Messiah - the musical” for Broadway.
